lickmynick: Your "Phases of the Moon" picture is incredibly inaccurate. One of the most important parts of differentiating between waxing and waning cycles is which side the light is on. In the picture there is no difference between the waxing and waning sides. They are the same. The waxing side is accurate but the waning sides should be rotated so the white side is on the left. Just wanted to point it out.
I see your point with your response to this post, though I feel it’s a yes/no situation. I think it’s fair to assume, given the circular setup of the Oreos, that the center represents where the Earth would be if it were present on the plate. It lines up nicely with the following image taken from this Wikipedia page:

Comma however, this Wikipedia image says exactly what you’re saying:

I’m willing to accept that both of us are right, depending on how the image is interpreted.
