How to Write a Class Rap with step-by-step directions

I used Sam Rangel’s step-by-step directions last year and it worked quite well so I thought that I would share this link again for others who want to include “Class Raps” in their classroom but aren’t really sure how to do it.
My students enjoyed creating an “Art Rap” last year and a few even mentioned it to me this year. We’ll probably have to write a new one. Personally, I still am not able to rap myself and the students always have a good laugh when I try, but Sam’s post really helped me organize the lesson so I could help my students write one. Fortunately they are all fabulous rappers.
Writing raps is a great way to get kids to write, individually and in pairs.
Some students also wrote individual raps and one thing that I found very interesting is that when they were writing their raps they needed to perform it and hear themselves doing it. I set up a couple of laptops with web cams and they watched and listened to themselves on the laptop as they created the rap. They recorded the process and that was great because they could then go back and listen to what they rapped to write it down.
They also created beats and asked other students to back them up. Fantastic teamwork activity too! Thanks to @debbiec1230 for sharing this on Twitter!
Another thanks to Sam Rangel for writing it.
