The Fashionable Male Teacher
Inspired by World Shaker’s comments and an encouraging message from Music Education, I realized that I neglected my male colleagues with my previous post. I am by no means an expert on male fashion, but there is nothing better then a well dressed man! I have gathered a few tips that I can offer to the male education Tumblrs.
There a few staple items that every male teacher should have. They combine style and comfort and can be mixed and matched in different ways creating multiple outfits ($ saving tip!). The above pictures (found here) are great examples of how these different items can work together.
The staple items are as follows:
- Button up shirts
- Chinos be daring and get them in red or blue!
- V-neck sweater
- Shoes - Clarks in navy suede or Oxfords
- Tie - click to the right, Club Monaco skinny ties are the best I’ve seen
- Messenger Bag
- Blazer
- Cardigan
Here are some great male fashion blogs, check them out for further ideas:
- Edward H
- Street Etiquette
- The Sartorialist (for men and women)
- LookBook (for men and women)
- GQ Magazine

There is one final trick to male fashion … tailoring! If your shirts are billowing, get them tailored. If your pants are sagging, get them tailored! It takes a little extra effort but trust me, it will make the world of difference.
The way you put yourself together can have a positive impact on your attitude and on your students. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
Do you have anything else to offer?
I can dig it. It’s wintertime in Ohio, so I’m up to rocking the V-neck sweater over a button-down and tie. There may be someone on Tumblr whose seen me dressed up…
