"The study found that 76 percent of teachers “strongly agree” that search engines have conditioned students to expect to be able to find information quickly and easily (and “equate research with Googling,” they say), while 71 percent agree that digital technologies “discourage students from finding and using a wide range of sources for their research.”
Yet 87 percent of the teachers surveyed use Wikipedia, compared with 53 percent of U.S. adult Internet users. More than 80 percent of the teachers surveyed say they use the Internet tool to gather material to help them create lesson plans or find content that will engage their students. And virtually all of the teachers surveyed (99 percent) say they use search engines to find information online."

How Many Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom?

Among the other highlights: 69% of those surveyed said educational technology helps them “do much more than ever before” for their students, with the most commonly used resources being online lesson plans, interactive web games and online articles.

"Google has just revealed a number of new Google stats on its blog, including that so far, more than 500 million people have upgraded (joined), 235 million are actively using Google features ( 1′ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, connecting with friends in Search), and 135 million are active in just the stream."

An article in Forbes has some astounding stats that give you a sense of the size and scope of Dropbox’s business.

• A billion files saved every 24 hours.
• It has 100 million users, twice as many as a year ago.
• Nearly 96 percent of its customers use Dropbox for free.
• About $500 million in revenues.
• Almost 250 employees. It started the year with 90 employees.
• A year ago when its revenues were $250 million, it was valued by private investors at over $4 billion.

I cannot stop using Dropbox. Even when my current employer was all like, “Here’s 2.15 free gigs of network storage space,” I was all like, “NOPE. Dropbox.”

According to a survey of 453 flipped educators conducted last June, 88% reported improved job satisfaction, and of those, 46 percent reported a significant improvement. Well, that’s outstanding to hear that teachers are happier with their jobs, but what about the students? Don’t worry, there’s good news there as well. 67 percent of teachers surveyed reported their classrooms had higher test scores.

4 – More small children can play a computer game than ride a bike. 58% of children aged 2-5 know how to play a ‘basic’ computer game. For the UK and France that jumps to 70%. Even 44% of 2-3 year olds have the ability to play a computer game. By comparison, 43% of kids 2-3 can ride a bike

5 – There is no tech gender divide between young boys and girls. As many boys (58%) as girls (59%) can play a computer game or make a mobile phone call (28% boys, 29% girls)

At the top of high school students’ technology wishlist were laptops and netbooks, tablets, smartphones, digital content, and recorded class lectures. Students also expressed in interest in listening to fewer lectures and incorporating more hand-on projects, independent study, virtual learning, and one-on-one tutoring."

Whoa: 22% of All the World’s Web Pages Reference Facebook

Revealing stat of the day: 22 percent of web pages contain Facebook URLs. At this point, in other words, more than a fifth of all web pages in the world — 242 million of 1.3 billion — reference the Mark Zuckerberg Production.

This is per an analysis conducted by the researcher Matthew Berk, who used data for the project gathered by Common Crawl, a Google-type web-crawling tool. The data accounted for the nearly 1.3 billion URLs the tool has crawled so far in 2012.
