The team approach to education is particularly apparent in a blended or online course, as these technology enabled classes require the efforts of many “non-traditional” educators to support the faculty member in meeting her teaching goals. An educational technologist or learning designer is particularly dependent on the quality of their relationships as they seldom can rely on organizational authority. We are persuaders and project managers, partners and collaborators, but we are not bosses. In the matrix structure that is the university an educational technologist without good relationships across campus will get very little accomplished."

Google demands Microsoft remove YouTube Windows Phone app, cites lack of ads

Microsoft updated its own YouTube application for Windows Phone just over a week ago and Google isn’t impressed. The Verge has obtained a copy of a cease and desist letter that Google has sent to Microsoft recently, demanding that Microsoft “immediately withdraw this application from the Windows Phone Store and disable existing downloads of the application by Wednesday, May 22, 2013.” Microsoft’s YouTube app for Windows Phone appears to have taken Google by surprise.

Google’s complaint centers on the lack of ads in Microsoft’s YouTube app, something it claims is a direct violation of the terms and conditions of the company’s YouTube API.

Unlocking independence — Students create robotic locker opener for classmate

Muscular dystrophy robbed Nick Torrance of his ability to walk, open his locker and do other everyday tasks many take for granted.

Starting this year, the Pinckney Community High School junior took a step toward being just like any other student.

He can open his own locker.

Two Pinckney seniors, Micah Stuhldreher and Wyatt Smrcka, used their robotics ingenuity and created an automatic locker opener.

Sitting in his wheelchair, Torrance slightly moves his hand over a sensor and his locker pops open. He moves his hand again, and the locker closes. Torrance, who is shy, said he likes the locker opener.

I’m really baffled by the greed of studios like Warner Bros., MGM and Universal. The harder you make it for people to legally buy a product they want, the more likely they are to steal it. I mean, do they WANT people to start paying less than $10 a month for a private VPN service that anonymizes their IP address to give them a safe and encrypted Internet connection so they can illegally download the copyrighted content they’d willingly buy if the studios would pull their heads out and continue offering it on a service people clearly love?

This Is What Google’s Self-Driving Car ‘Sees’ as It Makes a Turn

Google’s self-driving car soaks in a staggering amount of information about its environment as it drives, gathering 750MB of data every second, claims Idealab founder and CEO Bill Gross.

Gross, who says he learned the fact and taken the image above at anXPrize event, says the car is capturing everything it sees while moving — even cigarette butts.
